Yesterday we looked at the most popular aerial pictures of Cornwall this year as chosen by you. Today, it's the turn of the photographers to choose their favourite shots from 2021.

We haven chosen these shots for many different reasons: from being able to capture a beautiful scene, to a reminder of happy times with the family, to a glimpse of normality in strange times.

For many, photography and creativity have helped keep them going in 2021, which will be remembered as the year of global pandemic. We hope that seeing the beauty of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has brought some joy to others too.

 

Carl Brightman ~ Chapel Porth

"My favourite image of the year was taken an hour before sunset from Chapel Porth Beach on the October 20th. We had just had a spell of very wet and grey weather, but this was one of those special evenings when really beautiful light made the sea pop and brought out the warm tones of the cliffs".

Simon Smith ~ Sandy Acres, Hayle

"This is my favourite picture because it reminds me of the great British summer this year. It was taken in mid July and we had spent the whole weekend on the beach, surfing and having fun. The water was so warm - you didn't need to be abroad! The photo resembles a John Miller painting I used to have of the same area. For me, it's summer all in one picture!"

Gareth Tibbs ~ St. Mary's Harbour, Isles Of Scilly

"I chose this picture because it was lovely seeing St. Mary’s Quay busy towards the end of summer. It was the welcome return of Cornish Gig Clubs racing on Scilly once again, during the heritage weekend".

Duncan Scobie ~ Truro Cathedral

In June Cornwall hosted the G7 Summit. The song Sing2G7 was composed for the event, to give children a way to communicate with the world leaders that attended.

In filming the music video for Sing2G7 Duncan Scobie was allowed  to fly around Truro Cathedral, which resulted in this fantastic portrait of the Cathedral from outside.

Jamie Turnbull ~ Nags Head Rock, St. Agnes. Isles Of Scilly

"This is my favourite photo that I've taken in 2021 simply because it worked. Quite a lot of the time you have ideas of photographs that then don't work. I wanted to shoot the first light illuminating the rock so that it really stood out from the background. I was lucky enough to score a very colourful sunrise, and captured the dawn colours reflecting off the rock.

This could have been shot with a normal camera, but using a drone made it so much easier! Not having to trample the heather and gorse, and being able to make very small changes to composition to try and achieve 'maximum-horsiness' from the rock - all would have been very difficult without a drone".
